PVC is a chemically non-reactive material that is not resistant to organic solvents like chlorinated hydrocarbons, ketones, and cyclic ethers. PVC is also not very compatible with pure ethylene oxide, but can be used in ethylene oxide sterilization when exposed to low concentrations of the chemical.

PVC is a toxic plastic that contains dangerous chemical additives including phthalates, lead, cadmium, and/or organotins, which can be toxic to human health and the environment.
